Just got off the phone with an old friend I'd lost contact with. She's another fiber artist and we worked the Ren Faire together in the late 80's thru the early 90's, in the weavers and spinners guild. The faire has moved and with it my easy access to getting there on a weekly basis, when it was in season. I am NOT driving 4 hours each way minimum to go there now, certainly not while in costume period to the early 1600's

What a nice conversation we had, and we will get together soon. T'was nice to hear her voice again, and nice to be able to respond to the name Seumas once more.

Well couldn't you change after you get there?

But yeah, 4 hours is a long way to change clothes. :)

Sam clearly, you have never put on a great kilt!

It's somewhat akin to donning a sari - 8 to 9 yards of unsewn woolen plaid, that's pleated on the ground on top your belt, then belted, tied and tucked into place completely. It's much more involved than simply putting on a modern or 'wee' kilt. I don't mind doing this on either my bed or the living room floor, but I am not crazy about doing this on open ground out of doors or on the floor of a tent. Moreover, if you're driving 4 hours in 8-9 yards of wool, your air conditioning had better be working.

Wow, OK, thanks for opening my eyes. I've actually never put on a kilt of any sort that fit me (they were all way too big!)
