Just got off the phone with an old friend I'd lost contact with. She's another fiber artist and we worked the Ren Faire together in the late 80's thru the early 90's, in the weavers and spinners guild. The faire has moved and with it my easy access to getting there on a weekly basis, when it was in season. I am NOT driving 4 hours each way minimum to go there now, certainly not while in costume period to the early 1600's

What a nice conversation we had, and we will get together soon. T'was nice to hear her voice again, and nice to be able to respond to the name Seumas once more.

I have a friend who basically walked away from our friendship this past Spring.

I made my friend a loan after they got evicted, and needed cash for a motel until they could find a new place to live. Unfortunately, though they'd expected otherwise, there was no money to pay me back. Worse, I'd mentioned it was money I had been expecting to put towards taxes come April. (Fortunately for me, I qualified for a refund instead.) Not knowing what to do or say, my friend just withdrew and has not returned any phonecalls or emails. To make matters worse, they lost their job this past summer, so friend and significant other are living on one paycheck, rather than the two they needed to make ends meet.

Life has not been kind.

I was about to leave for home when my friend popped up on Yahoo Messenger. I figured it was worth a try, so I IM'ed, just to say they had been in my thoughts and prayers and that I wish them well. A few minutes later I had a reply. Ice broken, a conversation ensued, first by IM, then phone.

As I said, life has not been kind. My friend's relationship is majorly on the rocks, they're on the couch rather than in the bedroom, finding work has proven elusive, health insurance via cobra has been screwed up (which majorly sucks given a myriad of health concerns), their truck got repossessed, and given all this, my friend been drawing further and further into a shell. Thank the Gods, at least there's been no vehicular carnage, nor has a meteor hit their home. At least not yet.

It was not an easy conversation, but it was a conversation and most importantly, my friend now knows I hold no anger or hatred, only sadness for the situation and that they withdrew from me. My friend said they'll call again on Friday. Perhaps we can pick up where we left off.

I was paging thru the lolcat pages earlier as I munched on lunch and came across this shot. My conversation made me think of it. It's somewhat a modern comedic take on the Peaceable Kingdom.....
