I didn't laugh or even chuckle, but it was one of those moments when you say to yourself, "I'm not going to stare. I'm not going to stare!" and then you realize you already are.

I was just on my way back to my office this morning having finished hospital rounds, when I spotted a woman walking her dog. The act itself should not be remarkable, except the woman is an achondroplastic dwarf and the dog a dachshund, his belly and genitalia barely clearing the ground.

Of all the times not to have a camera.

Oh dear, having had dachshunds, I can tell you that that dog is morbidly obese. Not good. Daxie tummies should never be almost dragging on the ground.

I've got a pair. The female has a glandular disease similar to, but not, Cushing's.

The male has an arched back and comes about thisclose to pole vaulting himself with his pecker.

My girls, while a tad overweight (they were 13 lbs each, and should have been 12), had very good conformation (my inlaws did doggie day care while we were at work, and my father-in-law saw nothing wrong with excessive treats). Though the b&t was adopted through dachshund rescue, and originally bred from a puppy mill, we think one of her parents or grandparents may have been a standard (she was technically a tweenie, but the original family who owned her said she was a mini; not bloody likely with those legs).

Sadly, my ex has custody of "the girls" and won't let me visit them.

I chuckled when I read this, but then winced when I realized what it just might feel like the poor beast! Then I realized I was sitting with my legs oh so tightly crossed!

For an older dog, he does love to run around the house like a young 'un. But, he does climb the brick stairs in front of the house rather gingerly.

Reminds me of the time we went to the donut store. Outside were 2 Sonoma County Sheriff cars and 1 CHP unit. Inside were 3 cops, sitting at a table, and sharing doughnuts.
