Continuing ed
Oct. 15th, 2012 12:35 pmI need to spread this out more.
I was making it the grand rounds at the local hospital regularly, but ever since my PA switched his Fridays for Mondays it's now almost impossible for me to get there, so those credits have evaporated. I did an 8 hour class on bone disease in mid-July, and this past week, 8 hours for classes in SF, another 2 hours on line and then 3.5 hours Saturday morning (followed by a gourmet lunch buffet style at John Ash & Co.). While all of it was interesting stuff to hear, that much in a single week is a bit much.

Passed the test......
Mar. 13th, 2009 10:34 pmAs I posted earlier, I had my recertification on neonatal resuscitation today. I thought it was next week, not today. Good thing I don't suffer from triskadecaphobia. Mid-morning I had my usual pre-exam panic, made worse by my lack of time in the last week to crack the manual. Add to this, I noted from the registration form, which I only looked at to see when the next class would be held so I could reschedule, that the written test is now done on-line. I was expected to bring a completion certificate from the on-line portion with me when I arrived for the practicum.
It was only because my certification expires tomorrow that I resolved to go thru with it all.
I logged on to the Amer. Academy of Pediatrics site, and whipped thru the written test handily. So much for my anxiety level. I headed over to he hospital for the Practicum. Testing was preceded by an hour long video after which we broke into small group & in mine I was the first. The scenario I was given wasn't even a hospital setting, but instead a bloody office delivery! An office delivery, with a depressed baby needing resuscitation. OK. (gee, thanks.)
I had a 15 second sensation of ice water running thru my veins (given I have had an unplanned office delivery during which my patient had a girl & my office staff had kittens) & then got down to business. I passed without difficulty.
And God forbid it ever happens in my office for real.
