What a difference a day makes.....
Sep. 17th, 2012 12:53 pmSo when my husband finally got out of bed yesterday morning it was already 11:30am.
I had taken a hot shower and had breakfast, and was feeling a bit more human sitting up, rather than lying down. (That, plus 200 mg of Celebrex and a tylenol #3 left over from dental work I last year.)
We reviewed our options; a 2 hour drive each way, to maneuver our way over windy mountain roads to reach either Orr or Harbin, plus fees of $90 for the day, a day rapidly approaching half over, argued against. In addition, given my low back pain. I was not in the mood to do the driving myself and the prospect of my husband doing the drive, was equally unappealing. Somehow, white knuckling it as he drove, seemed like it would probably undo all the potential good the soak would do.
A happy alternative was to go to the Highlands resort locally and soak in their hot tub for the cost of a day fee, so that's what we did. I floated in hot water for the majority of the afternoon, just 5 minutes from the house. Did me a world of good.
We had supper at home last night. I put red beans up to soak before we left, and put them up to simmer at 6. A little cumin, some bay, some chili flake and in an hour they were tender. I stirred in a tablespoon of agave nectar the last 15 minutes to give a touch of sweetness to the beans and then served them over barley grits instead of rice. LJ scarfed them down so I think they tasted good to him, though I think I was a bit heavy handed with the pepper added to the grits. We started with an sliced tomato salad. There have been a bounty of heirloom tomatoes locally this year, the fruit stand selling them at $2/lb. They have been luscious and last night was no exception. They're so juicy and exquisite, they scarcely need to be dressed at all, and with small avocados at 5/$1, all I added was a tiny splash of balsamic.
Today finds me at my desk, my back still a bit irritable, but so much better than it was yesterday. I suspect by tomorrow, it will just be an annoying memory.
