News from AFER...... (NJ edition!)
Oct. 21st, 2013 02:21 pmSo it's official. You can get married as a same sex couple in New Jersey.
Friday, the NJ Supreme Court not only refused to stay the lower court order that directed the state to issue marriage licenses to same gender couples starting today, pending the appeal slated for early January, it did so in a unanimous decision. 7-0. This morning the Christie administration recognizing they were not going to win this one, dropped their appeal. So the fight in NJ is over; we have won our equality there.
The NM Supreme will hear the marriage equality question posed by the combined voices of their county clerkslater this week this Wednesday, Oct 23, the Illinois Veto session where hopefully the marriage equality legislation will come up again, starts tomorrow and Hawai'i's legislature will go into special session specifically to consider marriage equality legislation next Monday, October 28.
Cross your fingers friends, this is a tremendously important week coming up.
